Thanks Christine for the beautiful gift for tamariki. Your kindness is greatly appreciated. We will be reading the book next week and make the most of learning that we can while reading and enjoying the beautiful illustrations. Thanks again.
We often read your stories to the children, and they always get excited when we show them what stories we are going to read that particular day. They love your books and listen intently. Many of the children are proud to tell us that they have cats as pets, and will often chat about the adventures their own cats get up to. Through your books, we have experienced many a conversation with the little ones about where their cats sleep, what their cats get up to whilst they are at kindy having fun, etc. We love how your books encourage conversations amongst the children/teachers, this is just priceless. We look forward to reading many more of your books in the future.
These books are awesome. My daughter spends a lot of time flicking through looking at all the wonderful vibrant pictures and the books have story lines that children can relate to, such as making friends or becoming part of a family and going on adventures. Thanks Christine for sharing these books!
The children like the books you brought us very much. They always seem to spark an interest that goes at times beyond the topic of the book: i.e. about habitats, eating and sleeping habits etc.
As the Library Manager at New Windsor school, we have had the privilege of sharing the wonderful series of cat books written by Christine Johnston and Marilyn Bakker. Our students are spell bound and the beautiful photographs of the cats and the exciting adventures they get up to.
This is a series I would definitely recommend to all primary and intermediate schools. Not only can students relate to the stories but the easy reading makes it suitable to all levels.
The residents in Edmund Hillary Hospital do enjoy the books about the different cats adventures, as they follow the story and are able to chat about their own cats. The photos make it more interesting and exciting to look at.
I am please with the results, as I work with the cognitive impairment and frail residents on a one-to-one basis and have found the quiet time with each resident a valuable session with these books.
The four year old children enjoy reading the cat books in small groups. The illustrations create a lot of discussions across the group, extending vocabularies, confidence and social skills.

The children enjoy listening to the adventures of the rescued cats. From book one “Panther’s Garden Adventure” the photographs are beautiful and children enjoy sitting down to read the stories with their teachers or flicking through the pages at the photos to make their own stories with the rescued cat adventures.
We cannot wait until the next book is out!

At Waterview Kindergarten we really enjoy sharing Christine’s books with our tamariki. Having photographs of real cats add to the appeal of the stories, which cover themes close to children’s hearts such as keeping safe, friendships and bullying.
Their small size makes them ideal to share on an individual basis, and the inclusion of interesting vocabulary aids in extending children’s comprehension. Supporting someone in our community helps to make the books more meaningful for us.
We look forward to more books in the series!
In our school we have a permanent display featuring all the 12 books of the Rescued Cats’ Adventure Series.
These books are extremely popular with all our classes ranging from year 1 to year 6! Some children have read all the books and personally know the Swanson Vet and the various locations featured in the books. They just love these adventures. They talk about the photos and the different cats in each story; this leads on to them telling me all about their cats at home. By reading these books the children have a better understanding of rescued cats, jobs a vet does and what cats get up to.
Thanks Christine for coming to our school and showing us these books. I look forward to the next book.
Our kindergarten children really enjoy reading the stories. They love the photos in your books and often make comparisons to their own cats.
The children and I love reading the cat books and I purchased a calendar last yr so thought I’d keep it going each yr because I know it goes towards a good cause. I love cats!!

Thank you so much for giving up your time to come over and talk to the children. I know they really enjoyed listening to you. It was interesting how you and Marilyn complement each other when you are speaking to the children. From Marilyn, the children want to know about how the books were written and from you they are keen to know about the cats and the photographs. A perfect match!
I talked about you and your rescued cats to my 4 year old group and they were very interested. I then read them the first 2 books about Panther and Mr Bo Jangles. They were captivated and had some great discussion. They were well motivated when drawing their pictures and writing their stories. I will send you some of their pictures at some time. I especially liked the interest shown by several older boys who are sometimes hard to keep focused.
Thank you for opening up a whole new reading experience for these children.
Our children at kindergarten were immediately interested in the cat rescue books. They ask for them to be read constantly. They understand that these are real cats, having real adventures.
The books are a great tool for stimulating discussions on feelings and behaviours.
The grandchildren enjoy the books when I read to them, they love the pictures of the cats. My 7 years old granddaughter now can tell the story in her own words, love hearing her so.
I`m going to purchase more books for my Family Service as we deliver an educational component, so that the staff can take the books out in their deliverance.
Keep up the good work my friend.
Thanks Christine – we enjoyed reading your books! X
Thanks Marilyn. We are enjoying the books very much!
