White Chin Goes on an Outdoor Adventure
About the Book
White Chin is a cat that eats too much, is overweight and avoids exercise. A visit to the vet clinic makes it clear that things need to change. Once out- doors White Chin discovers there are lots of interesting things to do. In fact she is so busy she doesn’t have time to worry about overeating and she has fun.
This book is a useful tool to lead discussion into two areas:
1) The importance of healthy eating, regular exercise and sleep.
2) Exercising with a purpose or participating in sport. Many kinds of physical activity are helpful to keep us fit, healthy and happy.

About White Chin
When White Chin first came to the Rescued Cats’ Centre, she was very overweight. No matter how hard Christine tried to get her into the garden, White Chin resisted and kept coming back inside, lying about and stealing food whenever she could. Then one day White Chin just decided that outdoors was where she wanted to be. She became active and healthy and socialised well with the other cats.
About the Book
When White Chin comes to stay at the Rescued Cats’ Centre, all she wants to do is lie around, eating and sleeping all day. After a visit from the vet, White Chin is motivated to go on an outside adventure and discover all the things she has been missing. Reading the story to children provides an opportunity to discuss healthy eating and sleeping patterns and the importance of exercise.
Teacher Notes
Preschool / Year One and Two
Show the front cover to the children and discuss being outside. What activities do the children like to do when they go outside? For example – play games, play in the sandpit, ride bikes, go on a water slide, help Mum or Dad in the garden. Read the synopsis on the back cover and look a the photograph there. Ask the children why they think White Chin is so fat and why they think she has to go to the vet. List the three key factors on a white board – good eating habits, regular exercise, and good sleeping patterns. Commence reading the story.
