About Mr. Bo Jangles

Mr. Bo Jangles was two years old when he first arrived with his two sisters. Due to diligent care, he is in excellent health and is neutered and microchipped. A great explorer, he caused a major upset when he disappeared for two days, eventually returning hungry and thirsty. Apart from this, he is a soft, gentle, laid-back cat with the ability to curl up into incredible shapes, as seen on the back cover.

Teacher Notes

Preschool Many preschoolers will have experience of pets in the home. Prior to reading the book to the children, show the cover of the book and discuss what exploring means. What is Mr Bo Jangles, the cat, is doing. How will he get down. There are questions placed within the text to elicit the children’s responses. Concepts of up and down and higher and lower can be discussed. Children can mime the actions of a cat clinging with his claws and climbing the tree. Repetition of basic words assist with the early stages of reading.
Year One and Two This book may be read to the class or individual as above. Suggested follow-up activity is for children to draw a picture of either Mr. Bo Jangles or their own pet. These can be cut out and glued to a poster of a big tree. The children may be encouraged to write their own captions to be pasted onto the poster. PDF version available to put up on the big screen for class presentations.
