For those of you who don’t know, Mouse is a treasure hunter, bringing me home presents from all over the neighbourhood. At first, it was old newspaper pages, plastic bags… oh well, I thought, at least she’s doing her bit to help keep the neighbourhood tidy!
As time went on, the presents grew smarter! Socks, underwear and even gorgeous kids clothes!
Not knowing where Mouse was obtaining these clothing items from, I pegged some on to the Neighbourhood Watch Sign on the lamp post so anyone driving or walking by might recognise them. But the strong wind only blew them around and onto the ground.
More clothes came in the next day, odd socks and then a pair of socks. So I made up a flyer: Hi, if you are missing some items of clothing, please phone… Thank you.
No response from anyone. All items were washed and dried waiting for the owner. Still no response…
Eventually I went with my neighbour around the street door knocking with this large bag of clothing that Mouse had brought in and yes we found the father of the little girl who was missing her clothing. I explained that it was the cat that had brought home the clothing to me as presents. He said he had seen some cats in his back yard and my neighbour said, “Oh yes, it is the grey and white cat.” Mouse was now exposed. He was delighted and laughed loudly when he saw we had found his socks as well.
Unfortunately he had not read the flyer so I gave the little girl a copy of Mouse’s Treasure Hunt so she would always be reminded of this true story of my cat, Mouse, who gathered up her clothes and brought them home to me as presents.
